Safety and sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. And since 1989, Environmental Protection Services has led the way in safely disposing and recycling transformers, electrical equipment and mineral oil in an environmentally friendly manner. Our custom-built furnace system has the largest incineration capacity in the United States and employs a Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) to collect, record and report the required emissions data.
ENVIRONMENT
Protection is Our Middle Name
Protecting the Environment
As an industry leader, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requested EPS’ help in drafting new furnace regulations. Under the MegaRule, the EPA implemented new regulations to burn PCB-contaminated electrical equipment that guarantee harmful PCBs, dioxins and furans are not released into the atmosphere. We easily meet and exceed these stringent requirements.
EPS’ oil recycling service is also part of our commitment to environmental responsibility. Recycling oil and reintroducing it back into the market results in less oil being discarded into the environment and a reduction in the harmful effects of oil production and refining. With the recycling of oil that otherwise would need to be incinerated, we generate and sell carbon credits that can then be used by other companies to offset their carbon emissions.
Protecting Our Customers
EPS’ fully documented, cradle-to-grave disposal process sets the industry standard. We utilize special SOA software that tracks every hazardous item from intake to final disposal. From the moment we take custody of your hazardous materials—from removal, to transport, to processing—our experts do everything in an environmentally sound way, with no risk of air or groundwater contamination. Our proprietary systems and processes remove the liability and significantly reduce the risks and costs associated with the disposal of electrical equipment and dielectric fluid.
Protecting Our Employees
EPS’ focus on safety is not just on our process, but on our people as well. All of our policies, procedures and protocols are developed with employee safety as our first priority. From using overhead cranes instead of fork lifts to reduce our footprint and minimize the potential for accidents, to providing regular training in safety-related areas such as hazardous material handling, spill prevention and emergency response, EPS is totally committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment. By conducting routine internal facility audits and daily and weekly inspections, EPS has consistently achieved violation-free OSHA and EPA inspections.
